ENVIRONMENTAL VIEWPOINT AND POLICY

As a guest of this planet and a cancer survivor, I treat the planet with all the reverence and respect that the ancient dwellers of the Native Southwest did and still do. My goal is to only leave pictures, writings, plants/trees that benefited from my exhaled carbon dioxide, and my art work to future generations when I depart. Where I have stepped should never be known.

The Yucca and Sotol pieces that I use for walking sticks are cut and the "plant" is essentially left untouched. It will sprout a new stalk for the next person. Yucca and Sotol are a great renewable resource. The other woods that I use are found "downed" on the ground. Blown over trees, broken limbs, etc. All these items are from the local area and not "imported."

All of my walking sticks are made from naturally earth grown materials. I never use metals in these walking sticks.Aluminum is not used for environmental and safety concerns, although some "manufacturers" use it for walking sticks. The production of aluminum is a smoke stack industry, either here or abroad. Aluminum is a metal and can cause you to be electrocuted when accidentally "finding" a live wire or struck by lightning. They may have insulated handles, but these will break down with high voltage. Electricity of sufficient voltage will arc over - you do not even have to actually touch a high voltage source.

No chain saws buzzing in the dawn sun, no noise frightening wildlife, no emission of noxious exhaust into the blue sky, no throwing chain bar oil into environment, no disturbing of solitude. If a piece of a long stick needs to be shortened or pruned, it is done with a handsaw or hand pruner. My dogs, the desert coyotes, the quail, and the rabbits all watch in approval of my efforts. In fact I think they have come to enjoy the "entertainment" value of watching me...in their own way.

The natural materials provided by nature are only "worked" by me and blend back into the natural order...and when you use one you won't look like a wart on a beauty queen. Try that with metal, plastic, fiberglass, etc. Those must make nature quake, and the old adage of "you can't fool mother nature," comes to mind:) The only help I need comes from the hot desert sun, to naturally dry the sticks in a way only it can do. No monster kilns using our energy and sending their gases into the air for us to breath.

So the handcrafted art of making the walking stick, the appreciation of the environment in helping me do so, and the fantastic words of amazement from the folks who benefit from what is made, make for a great experience for everyone involved...including our environment.

If you have any particular questions, about any aspect of me or what I do, just email me. The business is me. No large bureaucracy, no large corporation, no middle man, no marketer spin,...just a direct contact with the maker of all these wonderful items. Everyone likes it this way- including the wildlife :)
